A very fine example of a Bhutanese Betel Box with elaborate silver workmanship. Its central panel in parcel gold gilt, depicts Two Deer (long life and harmony), on either side of the Golden Fish (salvation from suffering), which surround the Conch (the absence of all evil), the Lotus (purity), and the Parasol (protection against all evil). All are symbols of the Ashtamangala, the eight auspicious signs representing the offerings made to the Buddha by the gods at his enlightenment. The panel is bordered by intricate scroll motifs.
