Worn at the rear of the head of Amdo women from Eastern Tibet, this traditional ornament was affixed to the braided hair. The women of Amdo characteristically wore their hair in 108 small braids, With stylistic elements referring to phurbas (ritual daggers) surrounding the central turquoise, this ornament also functions as a protective amulet.
