Green Tara is a female bodhisattva. Her practice is to relieve the suffering of all beings who call upon her. She protects them from worldly fears and guides them to the state of liberation (nirvana).
She sits in the pose of arising from meditation--one leg still folded on the lotus seat while the other is extended forward, ready to stand. Her right hand in varada mudra, (boon-granting gesture) with her left hand holding a flowering blue lotus representing limitless compassion. Tara’s poised demeanor encompasses her active nature and beauty.
Provenance: Private East coast collection, 1980’s.
