Kataginu were over-vests worn by Samurai officials or their representatives as part of their traditional costume or kanishimo. This unusual example of light gauzy material is decorated on the reverse with a saddle and stirrup motif and the samurai’s crest, which appears between the wearer’s shoulder blades.
