These sacred blankets were used in ceremonies as hangings and as shrouds. They were sometimes used to receive an important family members’ last breath, the accumulation of which gave these blankets a gravitas or force that reverberated with the collective voice and the guidance of one’s accumulated ancestors. Like a pioneer’s bible, these cloths witnessed and blessed important events and were handed down to successive generations.
