An elaborated Halmahera style parrying shield in excellent condition known as a Salawaka. The center medallion represents the sun, its power and blessings. Shields of this ilk were already in European Museum collections in the 1600's. Salawaka are also among the very first items that found their way into the Continent's curio collections. This shield was originally discovered in Holland many years ago. It is an exceptional, well-detailed and early example of the genre.
