Several features make this a superior object that rises above its genre. The pod at its top symbolizes a germinating seed from the cosmic tree of life. This motif is associated with the myth of creation where two hornbills greedily devour the tree, though a seed from it regenerates and is reborn again.

The Bamboo’s distinctive carving is sinuous and of an old style of scrolling with powerfully protective animals. The wooden base is also finely carved with a ring of raised, three dimensional aso or protective spirit creatures in warm, rich brown patina.
