A fascinating object with early Central Asian inspiration.
Once the decorative cover for the under portion of a wood turned bowl, the silver base is embossed in repoussé technique. Naively rendered with primitive interpretations of animals associated with the zodiac. Each animal is contained within a cartouche surrounded by jewels. At the base is an elephant carrying the three precious gems (Triratna) surrounded by the Eight Auspicious Symbols (Ashtamangala).
